DESTINATION
The luxurious island of Cyprus rests in the expanse of the eastern Mediterranean Sea just four and a half hours flight-time from most main UK airports, landing at either of the two international airports; Larnaca and Paphos. Steeped in history and tradition but with modern sumptuous facilities, Cyprus is fast becoming the premier solution to incentivised travel. The large coastal city of Limassol comes highly recommended with a well developed infrastructure of transport, hotels and experienced DMCs like Premier on hand to offer flexible working packages.
Cypriot DMCs tend toward the middle to high end market, providing bespoke planning in line with the company's objectives, purposes and budget. The Troodos Mountain range dominates the centre of the island and rises to a height of nearly 2000 metres making safari by jeep, camel, horseback and even an old Bedford bus an exciting option. Aqua treasure hunts explore the submerged ancient ruins of the coast dating back to the era of Aphrodite, Cyprus' patron goddess of love. Above the waterline, the westerly winds give superb conditions for sailing regattas and every conceivable water sport, injecting a combination of competition and team awareness into the programme.
The traditional culture of Cyprus is also high on the agenda of events for those who want to experience a link with their destination. Evenings of traditional fare, music and dancing are organized at local tavernas, though complete village scenes can also be staged at hotels for larger conferences. Concept gala events are incredibly popular and DMCs are being increasingly adventurous; taking over nightclubs, jetties, scented gardens and cruise liners with full production sets from Mission Impossible, Greek and Roman temples or science fiction themed dinners to name a few. The designs are extravagant and meticulous, with thought and enterprise behind each detail even with delegate gifts; a favourite is a beautifully crafted silver pomegranate that, according to legend, brings prosperity to the recipient and represents the union of many seeds bringing growth and development to the whole.
For groups that are looking for a different dimension to their trip, Cyprus is now leading the way with social responsibility events. Half day and full day excursions and activities can integrate delegates with the community on a very personal level.
