Suggested Sightseeing
Whirlwind Tour of our Capital City!
Become a part of our nation's historic landscape and feel history come to life as you "visit" some of our country's most beloved sites. As the tour makes its way to Capitol Hill, you'll follow a route that affords splendid views of the monuments, famous sites, the Potomac River and past the magnificent White House, home of our distinguished first family. See the majestic U.S. Capitol Building, Senate and House office buildings, the Library of Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court.
As you travel along the "Mall," your CSI tour guide will also point out the famous Smithsonian Museums, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial. The first stop will be at the Lincoln Memorial, where you will climb the marble steps to the temple that enshrines Abraham Lincoln. From there, you will take a short walk to the somber setting of the powerful Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Your guide will then lead you to the Korean War Veterans Memorial -a powerful reminder of an important war.
No tour of Washington would be complete without a visit to the newest memorial in Washington DC, the National World War II Memorial. The memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S. during World War II, the more than 400,000 who died, and the millions who supported the war effort from home. Symbolic of the defining event of the 20th Century, the memorial will be a monument to the spirit, sacrifice, and commitment of the American people to the common defense of the nation and to the broader causes of peace and freedom from tyranny throughout the world.
End the day with a stop on Pennsylvania Avenue to view the White House. As you approach the White House through Lafayette Park, your Capitol Services tour guide will tell you the history of the park and of the many famous buildings that surround you.
Magnificent Monuments by Moonlight Tour
Tonight it's first class treatment as you board our motor coaches for a "Monuments by Moonlight" tour of our capital city. This evening's tour will be even more special, as you will have your own tuxedoed waiter onboard the bus serving gourmet chocolates, champagne and sparkling water throughout the wonderful evening driving tour of the U.S. Capitol, the White House, Smithsonian Mall and the Jefferson Memorial. The first stop will be at the Lincoln Memorial, where you will have an opportunity to climb the marble steps to the temple that houses a breathtaking statue of our sixteenth President. From there, you will take a short walk to the somber setting of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. Etched in granite are the 58,220 names of the heroic Americans who are missing or who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Directly across from the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial is the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Dedicated on July 27, 1995 by President Bill Clinton and President Kim Young Sam of the Republic of South Korea, the Korean War Veterans Memorial is a place to remember the 54,269 American lives that were lost in the war. The statues depicting fighting men on patrol represent all four branches of the United States military working together for a common goal...victory.
Your last stop will be at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial … a 7½-acre walking memorial that lies between the Potomac River and the Tidal Basin. A true work of architectural genius, this landmark is one of Washington's most popular attractions. Throughout the moonlight tour, your expert CSI tour guide will regale you with tales of trivia of the nation's capital city!
A Day at the Smithsonian
Your first stop is at the world famous and most frequently visited museum on the planet, The Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum - an absolute must for any visitor to our capital city! This magnificent glass and marble building maintains the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world. Located on the Mall, the museum has hundreds of artifacts on display including the original Wright 1903 "Flyer," Charles Lindbergh's "Spirit of St. Louis," the Apollo 11 command module, "The Voyager," which flew around the world on one tank of gas, and a lunar rock display that visitors can touch. This Museum is a fitting tribute to the great explorers who have advanced the history of flight.
Explore our fascination of flights through the air and in space. View Earth from the open cargo bay of the Space Shuttle. Journey to the natural and manmade wonders of the world. These and other thrills await you in the National Air and Space Museum's Lockheed Martin IMAX® Theater. Giant-screen films are projected on the five-story-high screen with 6-channel digital surround sound.
Visit The National Museum of Natural History featuring wonders of the natural world, from the world's largest mammal (a bull elephant) to a newly renovated Insect Zoo. Its great halls feature everything from the skull of a Tyrannosaurus Rex to Ice Age Mammals. You'll not want to miss the presumably cursed Hope Diamond in the Gem and Mineral Collection! The Museum of Natural History is dedicated to understanding the natural world and our place in it.
A Riding Tour Of Presidential Homes: Magnificent Washington, DC Residences
See the modest homes and grand mansions in Washington's tree-lined neighbourhoods, where 20th Century Presidents lived before and after the White House. Pass by the first home bought by Senator Richard Nixon, the one-room apartment rented by newlyweds Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson and the fashionable building in which ensign John F. Kennedy rented a room during World War II. See where Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower lived frugally, where a budget-conscious Harry Truman rented and where young Franklin Roosevelt escaped a terrorist explosion.
Drive in front of the plush homes and diplomatic residences, once home to Herbert Hoover, Warren Harding, Woodrow Wilson and William Howard Taft. Along the way, see where Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson lived after succeeding to the presidency, but before they moved into the White House. As a bonus, glimpse embassies, grand homes of foreign ambassadors and the residences of famous Washingtonians of the past and present.
Embassy Row and the National Cathedral
Your tour will begin with a drive through a unique area of Washington - Embassy Row. Embassy Row is the popular name of the two-mile portion of Massachusetts Avenue, where these elegant and, sometimes unusual, buildings are home to the many embassies, consulates and ambassadors.
What was once sprawling countryside in the northwest quadrant of Washington DC is now home to some of the most elite addresses in the world. As property taxes began to soar in the latter half of the 19th Century, most landowners in the area sold their estates to wealthy, foreign dignitaries. By designating these properties as consulates and embassies, the buildings and grounds became tax-free. Since the middle of this century, most embassies have been located on a stretch of Massachusetts Avenue. Your Capitol Services tour guide will point out the British Embassy, the Embassy of Turkey, reputedly Embassy Row's most sumptuous mansion, and the dozens of others replete with all their majesty and elegance.
After your driving tour of Embassy Row, you will stop at the Washington National Cathedral. In a city of impressive monuments, memorials and historic sites, the Washington National Cathedral is unique. Standing higher than the Washington Monument, the Cathedral crowns 57 acres at the city's highest point. The Cathedral is a living symbol of our country's heritage of religious freedom and faith. Its roots date to the inclusion of "a great church for national purposes" in the original plans for the city of Washington.
