Cyprus for Events & Incentives: Six Days Exploring Hotels, Venues & Experiences

There’s only so much you can learn about a destination from a proposal, presentation or hotel website.

Sometimes you need to get on the plane, meet the people on the ground, see the hotels, experience the restaurants and activities and understand how everything actually fits together.

That was the purpose of our six days working in Cyprus.

The first few days were spent travelling around the island with our local DMC partner, Sassy Events DMC, visiting hotels, restaurants, cultural sites, and experiences that could work for future event and incentive programmes.

We then finished the week at City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol.

It was busy — but exactly the sort of trip that gives you a real understanding of a destination and how it works for groups.

Luxury hotels in Limassol

We started in Limassol, visiting several of the city's leading luxury hotels.

Our inspections included the Four Seasons Cyprus, Amathus Beach Hotel, AMARA and Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, where we also stopped for lunch. Seeing hotels back-to-back is incredibly useful.

On paper, several properties can appear to offer a similar five-star experience. In reality, their style, atmosphere, location, and suitability for different types of groups can vary widely.

Being there in person makes it far easier to understand which property would suit an incentive group, conference, or corporate event than simply relying on a hotel fact sheet.

Kourion: bringing history into the programme

Cyprus offers much more than beautiful resorts.

We visited Kourion, one of the island's most impressive ancient sites, dramatically positioned above the coast.

For event and incentive groups, experiences like this add another layer to a programme — particularly when you want guests to feel that they've genuinely experienced the destination rather than simply stayed in a luxury hotel.

Exploring Paphos

Our journey then continued west towards Paphos.

We explored Paphos Old Town, with its shops, cafés and local atmosphere, before visiting Paphos Harbour and Archaeological Park, including its famous mosaics and ruins. You can even hold an event in the Archaeological Park.

This is one of the things I really like about Cyprus as an incentive destination.

You can combine Mediterranean beaches and five-star hospitality with history, culture, and local experiences without having to choose between them.

Cap St Georges, Annabelle and Almyra

Around Paphos, our hotel visits included Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort, with its impressive beachfront setting, pools and spa.

We also visited Annabelle and Almyra, two established Paphos hotels with very different styles and personalities.

Again, actually walking through the properties and seeing their location and facilities gives you a much clearer idea of the groups they would suit.

Lunch followed at Ouzeri, overlooking the water — exactly the kind of relaxed local dining experience that works so well within an incentive itinerary.

Vasilikon Winery

From Paphos, we headed into the countryside to visit Vasilikon Winery.

Wine experiences work particularly well for groups because they're relaxed, social and rooted in the destination.

Rather than simply adding another activity to an itinerary, you're giving guests an opportunity to taste something local and experience a different side of Cyprus.

Staying at Anassa

Our next stop was Anassa, one of Cyprus' best-known luxury resorts.

With its beachfront location, beautiful grounds, spa and Mediterranean views, it has a very different feel again and is easy to imagine working for a high-end incentive programme.

Some properties are difficult to judge from photographs alone — and Anassa is one of those places where the setting and atmosphere really need to be experienced.

Blue Lagoon and Aphrodite's Rock

We also managed to get out onto the water with a cruise to Cyprus' Blue Lagoon.

Clear Mediterranean waters, swimming, snorkelling, watersports and a spectacular coastline make this an easy addition to an incentive programme, particularly when guests need some downtime between more structured activities.

We also visited Aphrodite's Rock, traditionally associated with the birthplace of Aphrodite and one of Cyprus' best-known landmarks.

It's another example of how easily history, mythology and scenery can be incorporated into a programme.

City of Dreams

After several days travelling around the island, we returned to Limassol for the final part of our trip

Our stay began with a full resort inspection covering the MICE facilities, bedrooms and suites, spa, pools, Adventure Park and Tennis Academy.

From an events perspective, City of Dreams was particularly interesting because there is so much available within the resort itself.

That gives organisers the flexibility to combine meetings and events with dining, activities, leisure and downtime without constantly moving guests off-site.

Our first evening finished with dinner at Aura, which combines local and international cuisine with open kitchens and interactive cooking stations.

CSR, honey and traditional Cyprus

The next morning we headed out to Ktima Vikis for a workshop and CSR activity, followed by a tasting of local honey products.

I particularly liked this part of the programme because it demonstrated how an itinerary can combine more traditional sightseeing with something that has a stronger connection to the local community.

From there, we travelled to Omodhos, one of Cyprus' traditional villages.

Our visit included a winery and wine tasting, lunch in a traditional taverna and free time to explore the village.

These are often the experiences guests remember most: local food, wine, small villages and time to simply explore.

Limassol Old Port and Amber Dragon

Later that afternoon, we returned to Limassol via the Old Port area before heading back to City of Dreams.

Our final dinner was at Amber Dragon, where Chinese and Japanese cuisine is served around an open-view kitchen, sushi bar and speciality Peking duck oven.

It was a completely different dining experience from the traditional tavernas and local restaurants we'd enjoyed earlier in the week — and another example of the variety Cyprus can offer.

Why Cyprus works for events and incentive travel

After six days travelling around Cyprus, what stood out most was the variety.

Within one destination, event planners can combine:

Luxury beachfront hotels and resorts
Large-scale MICE facilities
Ancient archaeological sites
Traditional villages
Local food and wine experiences
CSR activities
Boat trips and swimming
Spa and wellness
Restaurants and nightlife
History, culture and mythology

And much of it can be combined without spending endless hours travelling between locations.

A programme could include a morning meeting, lunch in a traditional village, an afternoon wine tasting, and dinner overlooking the Mediterranean — followed the next day by a boat trip or a cultural experience.

That's what makes Cyprus particularly interesting for corporate events and incentive travel.

But for me, the greatest value of a trip like this is experiencing the destination firsthand.

We want to understand how the destination actually works.

Which hotels have the right atmosphere for a particular client?

Which experiences feel genuinely local?

Where would we take a group for dinner?

How do the different areas of Cyprus compare?

And what will guests actually remember when they get home?

After six days travelling around the island with our DMC partner, I came home with far more than hotel facts and photographs.

I came home knowing how Cyprus actually works.

And that's exactly why we travel.
