The impressing baroque Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) was built in 1743 and symbolised for more than 200 years the wealth and the credence of the Dresden people. After destruction, the church was a ruin for many years. Her relics stood as a symbol against the war, but never was the beauty of the former church forgotten. After the political change in East Germany in 1989 a group of Dresden citizens initiated the reconstruction of the church by donations. Thousands of people all over the world responded to the call for help and made it possible for the church to be reconstructed again to its former beauty.
